“We hosted a very successful USS Sperry Naval Reunion in St Tammany Parish. The complimentary resources and services the St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission/Louisiana Northshore provided us were invaluable. Thank you for making our reunion a memorable one!”
– Veronica Smith, Reunion Coordinator & Daughter of USS Sperry Naval Veteran
St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana
Located 40 minutes from the French Quarter of New Orleans, St. Tammany Parish is an oasis from the big city. Family reunions will find a myriad of sights and activities, from state parks and waterfronts to safari parks and swamp tours.
Climb aboard a flat bottom boat for a Honey Island Swamp Tour and prepare to traverse through swamps and around cypress trees. You’ll be introduced to resident alligators, discover some Louisiana history, and learn about the flora and fauna of the swamp. At the Global Wildlife Center, you can feed a family of giraffes or pet a wooly bison, all from the comfort of a covered wagon tour. Have a kayaking adventure on the Cane Bayou, and keep your eye out for alligators, otters, herons and osprey. Learn all about the alligator industry, from hatching to adulthood, at the Insta- Gator Ranch and Hatchery. You can even pick up some juvenile gators and snap a photo with them. Visit the sandy beach and Lake Pontchartrain swimming area at Fontainebleau State Park.
The Northshore’s culinary scene is deep and delicious, and group-friendly caterers serve regional specialties like jambalaya or shrimp
creole, and host cheerful crab and crawfish boils.
Families can revel in the food and fun at one of St. Tammany Parish’s many annual events. Savor succulent crabs and enjoy two days of dancing at the St. Tammany Crab Festival (September); or listen to some of Louisiana’s best tunes at the Abita Springs Busker Festival (April). At the end of a long day, families can rest their heads at one of the 3,000-plus rooms in Louisiana’s Northshore. Accommodations range from campsites to cabins to well-known chains and even a boutique hotel.
When you’re ready to plan your reunion in St. Tammany Parish, the team at the tourist commission is standing by to help.
